Hi! My name is Marla Schevker and I am going to be the new local editor for Hollywood Patch! I am so excited to be here and look forward to working with the Hollywood community to produce interesting, local and insightful news.
A bit about me professionally: I’ve been in love with journalism since summer of 2002 where I started my high school newspaper and never looked back. I graduated from California State University, Northridge with my bachelor's degree in newspaper journalism in 2010.
I’m currently a graduate student at USC where I am studying politics and investigative reporting with an emphasis on multimedia and alternative forms of story telling in a specialized program and am on track to graduate in Spring 2014. (Note to UCLA alums and current students: PLEASE don’t hold this against me! I really don't buy into the whole rivalry thing!)

After undergrad, I went to work in Beverly Hills, where I stayed for three years (and worked at both the Beverly Hills Weekly and the Beverly Hills Courier). I love community news and am delighted to be working at Patch. This allows me the opportunity to combine my two loves: journalism and the Internet.
A bit about me personally: I grew up in San Diego and moved to Los Angeles eight years ago. I have two cats (and would be happy to share photos with any cat lover because let’s face it, there aren’t enough cats on the Internet) and a massive book and DVD collection. I would classify myself as a mega nerd, with a love for everything from super heroes to science fiction to games to technology. During my spare time, I can usually be found reading a book, drinking some coffee and staring at the ocean (from a safe distance so my book and coffee don't get wet).
