Hollywood Today: LAPD to Host Town Hall Meeting

Also: Actress Michelle Williams to discuss 'My Week With Marilyn'; possible changes to Yucca Street traffic; performance by Idle Warship; benefit show at Hollywood Improv.

Have a concern or question you'd like to bring to the attention of police in Hollywood? Tonight is your chance.

The Los Angeles Police Department invites the community to attend a town hall meeting where officers and city officials will be on hand to discuss crime and public safety issues in Hollywood.

The agenda will include goal setting, discussion of progress made on last year's issues, use of social media by the department and how the community can help. L.A. City Councilman Tom LaBonge and Deputy City Attorney Tamar Galatzan will also speak.

"Town halls are often the best and most easily accessible open line of communication for a commanding officer to exchange ideas and get the temperature of different issues," said Capt. Beatrice Girmala. "At the beginning of the year, it helps us set goals and be even more responsive to those we serve."

The meeting will be at the Woman's Club of Hollywood, 1749 N. La Brea Ave., at 6:30 p.m.

  • Hollywood Improv is hosting a benefit show at 10 p.m. for Josh Adam Meyers and the family of Angelo Bowers. Bowers, 26, was killed in Hollywood by a suspected drunk driver. Meyers was taken to the hospital seriously injured. Ticket sales will go toward Meyers' medical bills and to Bowers' family, reports LAist. Performing artists include Aziz Ansari, Marc Maron and more. Ticket prices start at $25.
  • The City Council Transportation Committee is considering permanently closing the Yucca Street corridor to through traffic to try to make the area more pedestrian- and bike-friendly, points out Blogstreet Los Angeles. The panel is to meet at 2 p.m. to discuss the plan.
  • Idle Warship, featuring hip-hop artist Talib Kweli and soulful singer-songwriter Res, play a live show at Amoeba at 6 p.m. The duo will sign copies of their album Habits of the Heart after the show.
  • Actors Kenneth Branagh and Michelle Williams will be at the Egyptian Theatre to discuss their latest movie, My Week With Marilyn. The discussion follows a screening of the movie at 7 p.m. Tickets: $11.
