Blaze at Hollywood Hills Home Surprises Firefighters

The cause of the outside fire, which spread unexpectedly to an attic Sunday in the house on North Belfast Drive above Sunset Plaza, is under investigation.

A balcony fire at a three-story home in the Hollywood Hills on Sunday had a surprise for seasoned Los Angeles firefighters who thought they had knocked it down almost as soon as they arrived, a spokesman said.

"It was an outside fire that got into the attic," the Los Angeles Fire Department's Matt Spence said about the fire in the home in the 1300 block of North Belfast Drive, which was reported at 10:39 p.m. Sunday.

An engine crew that went inside to make sure there were no hot spots found flames in the attic and a partial roof and ceiling collapse.

A team of 27 firefighters, including some from Los Angeles County, spent 33 minutes from arrival to knockdown, Spence said.

Two women who live in the home were not injured, he said, even though they had to wait for firefighters to get them out of the house.

Family members came to provide shelter to the displaced women, Spence said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
