Hollywood Farmers' Market Permit Extended a Month

Officials meet Monday to discuss a resolution and announce the market may continue to operate through May 17.

A monthlong extension was granted to the Hollywood Farmers' Market on Monday as organizers work out a street closure permit resolution with the Los Angeles Film School.

At issue is a parking structure at the corner of Selma and Ivar avenues that the school is seeking to access on Sundays when the market blocks it off.

Councilman Eric Garcetti and Michael Woo, president of the nonprofit that organizes the market, announced the extension in a joint statement late Monday afternoon.

City officials met with market organizers Monday, the day the permit was set to expire. The monthlong extension granted on Monday allows the market to continue operations through May 17.

Garcetti has been working with the market since December to help find a solution with the school.

"We believe that, after three months of discussion, we have made progress toward a long-term resolution of the issues that have been raised about the location of the Hollywood Farmers' Market," Garcetti and Woo's statement said.

When an initial 90-day permit extension was announced in December some options under consideration included the relocation of vendors to adjacent streets or for the film school to map out construction options to connect its parking structures so cars could enter the building from an area not affected by the market.
