1. GNOMEO & JULIET: A3-D DISNEY MOVIE

Where/When: Opening Friday, Feb. 11 at the Pacific El Capitan, at 6838 Hollywood Blvd.

Why go: The 3D Disney movie puts a new twist on Shakespeare’s classic romantic tale using garden gnomes. The movie has a cute website worth checking out, with some fun games and activities for the little ones, with movie times/locations for mom and dad. The film stars James McAvoy and Emily Blunt with music from Elton John. Rated G.

Where/When: At Tailwaggers, 1929 N. Bronson Ave., Saturday, 1-4 p.m.

Why Go: Are you looking for a family pet or dog that has a lot of love to give? Dogs Without Borders is a rescue and adoption agency that rescues dogs in need all over the world and nurses them back to health, offers rehabilitation and TLC before adopting them out.

3. Public Star Party

Where/When: Griffith Observatory, at 2800 East Observatory Road, Los Angeles, CA 90027. Saturday, Feb. 12 with ongoing tours from 2-9:45 p.m.

Why go: A free star party is being held Saturday and monthly with the assistance of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society and the Los Angeles Sidewalk Astronomers. You and your family can enjoy looking at the sun, moon, visible planets, and other objects, using a variety of telescopes.

3. KJAZZ 88.1FM Sunday Champagne Brunch at Renaissance Hotel

Where/When: Twist at The Renaissance Hollywood Hotel 1755 N Highland Ave, Hollywood, CA 90028 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Live jazz performances and an all you can eat and drink buffet, hosted by KJAZZ DJs Bubba Jackson and Helen Borgers. Reservations can be made by contacting Twist Restaurant at 323-491-1000.

5. THE EGYPTIAN THEATRE VALENTINE'S DAY WEEKEND: THE ELYXIR OF LOVE

Where/When: Egyptian Theatre, 6712 Hollywood Blvd., Sunday, Feb. 13,  at 1 p.m.

Why Go: A charming comedy is a celebration of innocence, so what setting could be better than a small Italian-American community in Napa Valley, circa 1915? In this ingenious update, the naïve Nemorino believes a love potion will win him Adina's heart. Blossoming from a shy Italian immigrant to a plucky entrepreneur, he captures both his sweetheart and the American dream over the course of this delightful opera buffa. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
