Academy of Motion Pictures Presents Outdoor Summer Movies

The summer series will begin on Wednesday.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is the place to be for movie buffs this summer with its "Oscars Outdoors" summer movie season scheduled to start on Wednesday.

Joss Whedon's "Much Ado about Nothing,'' is on the docket for the first showing which is being presented by KCRW's "Matt's Movies.''

Actors from the film, including Amy Acker, Alexis Denisoff, Clark Gregg and Nathan Fillion will also be on hand to answer questions after the screening.
"Twenty Feet from Stardom" will be shown on Thursday, followed by appearances by the director and some of the film's actors.

Other actors and special surprises are also scheduled to be part of this season later in the summer, according to Randy Haberkamp, the Academy’s managing director of programming, education and preservation.

"After a successful launch last summer, we continue to strive to be the gold standard of outdoor movie events," Haberkamp said.

This year marks the second the outdoor screenings will be held.

Tickets to each screening are $5 for adults, and children 10 years and under can get in for free. Tickets are $3 for students with proof of identification and Academy members. Lawn chairs and picnic baskets as well as alcohol are also allowed.

The gates open at 6:30 p.m., and the movies begin at sunset.
