Supporters, Protesters Flock to Chick-fil-A

The restaurant on Sunset Boulevard receives an influx of reaction from the community on Wednesday.

Passed by the Hollywood Chick-fil-A Wednesday?

Hollywood Patch did and noticed several protesters were out in front of the restaurant waving signs around 2 p.m.

Hollywood Chick-fil-A has received a range of responses from the community since it opened in Sept. 2011.  while the independently owned and operated franchise has promised customers

On Wednesday, protesters were speaking out against recent comments by chief executive Dan Cathy who commented last month of his "support of the traditional family." Meanwhile, supporters flocked to the restaurant following former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's urging for "Appreciate Chick-fil-A Day."

There were no arrests and police received no calls regarding the protest, Sgt. Sal Ogaz of LAPD's Hollywood Station told Patch Wednesday afternoon.

ABC7 was outside the restaurant speaking to customers and protestors. Check out their story for a look at the scene Wednesday night.

To be fair, we (the GLBT community) should consider the effects imposed upon others by our call for Marriage Equality. Having taken such time, I am quite certain there is not one single thing about giving marriage equality to everyone that is in any way, shape or form INCONSISTENT WITH ANYTHING THE CHRISTIAN RELIGION BELIEVES, PREACHES OR TEACHES! I am not saying IT IS 'CONSISTENT' WITH ALL OF CHRISTIANITY. Marriage Equality and the right for gay people to marry is TOTALLY UNRELATED TO CHRISTIANITY OR ANY OTHER RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. What any Religion believes about what defines a valid marriage 'under god' has nothing to do with the totally secular government issued license to marry. Some choose to intertwine that with their Religion. Others don't. "Friends" taught us even the goofball can go on the internet and become certified to act in the ceremonial aspect of what is the secular license to wed issued by each State's Government and formalized by a ceremony - often by and during a formal Religious Ceremony, often by a judge, and more and more common, even a goofball who got licensed over the internet. The confusion over the "Church Wedding" and what is legally required by law regardless of any Church or Religious Ceremony to be 'legally married' has blinded too many really really GOOD PEOPLE who have been mislead by whatever their religion has led them to believe about other people's freedom of religion and marriage, which are unrelated.

For many of these bigots it is not about religion or civil contracts, they just don't like gay people, or what Trigg Palin would call "f*ggots."
BigB August 02, 2012 at 05:23 PM
OK, let's try this again... The "individual" starting at 1:02 in the video "I have yet to find a single account online(!) of Chick-fil-a discriminating against someone because they're gay" is yet another clueless tool. Chick-fil-a doesn't want to turn away any money at its grease pits, including gay $$$. The damage is done by Cathy funneling this money into various faith-based-hate organizations funded through his Winshape front group. Bottom line: patronizing Chick-fil-a is directly funding anti-gay bigotry, including any franchises.

Why do gay people like to bully business owners by intimidation? It use to be just a small group of militant gays that made a fuss, drag queens etc..... Now days it has become popular for groups to gather and create problems just for the hell of it. I mean big deal if this business owner dos not approve of gay people. I can bet that every gay person has at least one family member who does not approve of the way they live there life. The same rules in dealing with that should he used in matters like this. By making a lot of noise over something so unimportant like this is just plain ridiculous. If you don't like the way this business owner feels don't patronize his restaurant. I think the business owner probably regrets going on the record stating how he feels but this is American and he has a right to his opinion.

I don't think you're following the point here, Paul. It is not about Cathy's personal views -- he's certainly entitled to go through life hating and judging others while clutching his bible and claiming to be doing "god's work -- it's the direct and decisive actions he takes to impose those twisted views on others and to deny them their civil (not religious) rights. Google "Cathy" and "Winshape" to get an idea of where Chick-fil-a's profits go toward. If you're personally OK with this (which it sounds like you are) then by all means eat at Chick-fil-a every day of the week. From the ABC video it sounds like you'll have plenty of company. But the LGBT community (and no, we're not all drag queens) has just a much right to express its views. And to help educate those who might otherwise not know what type of business they're supporting -- and choose not to once they know the whole story.

This is not just some small business owner. Outside of LA (and I think most of CA) this is one of the largest fast food chains, below McDonalds, but pretty high up. Their money is eared for the owners to do with as they please. In this case, the owner choose to spend his earned millions of dollars towards insighting the radical right wing religious fundemenalists that this is a mandate from God to actively prevent any equality of rights for gay people. You often pine about the lack of hospices .... well there might not be any at all if there were not the initial and then following generations of people who fought for what rights we do have (in California we are very protected, unlike 30 of the 50 States that offer no civil rights for gay people. You knock everything then when people take action, you knock them too. I was attempting to address my initial comment to the majority of people who are normal, sane, rational people who would not otherwise feel so much hatred towards the thought of basic equality of rights for gay people because they (like myself and most Americans are not well read and get most information from news bites) believe it is in some way affecting their Religion (any religion. Orthodox Jews have anti-gay views, Catholics, Many But Not All Christian Denominations. To call equal rights a defense of religion/Christianity can make any faithful person lose sight of the non-religious equality of rights at issue.

This whole thing is pointless. Has everyone missed the fact that the Hollywood location is a Franchise and not the Corporate Headquarters? What about the guy that owns the Hollywood location? Has anyone thought about what this does to him? If the concern about comments, policy etc come from the top - go to the top in Atlanta. I don't care who wants to marry whom - let them do as they please but don't hurt the wrong person becuase it's close by. That corner used to be dump with a failed Carls Jr, drug dealers and homeless.

Regarding the kiss a thon on Friday: Some of the men I saw kissing on the news where some of the ugliest men I have EVER scene! They could have at brought handsome, sexy men making out in public and at least it would have been more visually appealing for bystanders to view. It turned me off when I saw these guys kissing on the news. I'm gay and it made feel sad for the gay community.
Stephanie August 07, 2012 at 10:54 AM
What the hell do you mean? There are plenty of churches that don't recognize gay marriage. What is a "secular license"? From Friends? Is that where you are getting your information?
Stephanie August 07, 2012 at 10:58 AM
Google "The Overhauling of Straight America". Your questions about the LGBT bullying and intimidating businesses will be answered.

@Stephanie - sorry I wasn't able to be more clear. The "Friends" reference was to the long running TV sit com that for a generation of people it could be used as a common reference a very large number of people who know nothing about news/world would understand a complex issue by a reference to a charicter from a silly tv show. When Anderson Cooper said on his news hour, prioe to that day he was reporting on a major incident in Yemen, that prior to the incecendent, even as a major informed news reporter, he didn't know anything about Yemeb except from the "episode where Chandler says he is moving to Yemen". That explained the world crisis to a huge number of people of a large generrationIF THEY HAD REGLARLY WATCHED A SIT COM and nevet once saw or read the News. Forget that reference I made. It is meaningless (and I agree makes no sense with this issue or the rest of that comment). I wll try to make what I meant in a new comment about facts and not tv sit com reference)

As @stephanie pointed out there are already many Churches (Mainstream Christian Churches) that don't recognize Gay Marriage (the majority I believe) which also means there are some mainstream Christrian Churches that do and perform gay marriages (both in States that legally have gay marriage equality and those that don't have the right for gay marriage, eg. California. neither the Christain Churches do not recognize gay marriage not the progressive churches that do have any affect on weather under the law of any state, gay marriage is valid or not valid. (The States that already have gay marriages do not only issue a valid marriage licenxce to gay couples affliliated with a church that recognizes gay marriage and not to those people who are followers of Demonations that don't recognize or consider gay marriage an actual 'sin' in the eyes of god.

part2 - The state requires a licence AND a person licensed to perform the wedding ceremony formally officiate over a ceremony or there is no valid State recognized marriage of same sex couples OR traditional male/female.  That rule applies EQUALLY to all people who want to have a valid marriage recognized by their State and by all States in the US under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of The US Constitution (in theory, the test awaits the Supreme Court some day  ruling that the "Full Faith and Credit Clause" applies to all States for everything covered there under or if the Constitution has a 'gay exception' to any or all rights of people under the Constitution of the United States.

part 3 "Ordained To Marry 2 People' "I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU MARRIED UNDER THE POWERS VESTED TO ME UNDER THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA" Priests, Ministers, Rabais are vested under State Law to formally declare a marriage valid. Ship Captains are also vested with the same power but under a different part of the Law. Judges are also vested with the power under their power and authority as a Judge. What has now become something that can be done over the internet almost instantly and with a small fee, anybody can becomed "ordained" and get "Vested Under The Laws Of The State of California" and have the exact same ability to officiate over a valid (required to be a valid marriage)Wedding Ceremony .... And once properly done, the STATE (all State/fed) recognizes for all purposes as there being a valid marriage between 2 people with absolutely no difference who officiated the ceremony (just so long as they were vested by a state law). There are huge number of people who only believe a marriage is valid if there was a 'church wedding' by a Priest/Minist, or it is not a real marriage. That's fine with the United States. Perfectly fine to believe and hold that as a formal policy. No Problem. People can believe whatever they want without the Government affecting that belief system. So any 'Unrecognized Wedding' remains so in the Eyes of All Who Agree.
joninla August 07, 2012 at 11:10 PM
part 4 The State (goovernment on all levels in the US) won't change that, but for formal legal purposes, the Government will recognize all properly performed marriages and defines marriage for everything and in every way Marriage applies EXCEPT HOW ANY RELIGION MAY OR MAY NOT RECOGNIZE A VALID MARRIAGE FOR ALL PURPOSES THE CHURCH SEES MARRIAGE IN/UNDER THE EYES OF GOD. No conflicts.  No overlap.  No "Inconsistencies" with any religious belief about marriage and what, for legal purposes, the government will or will not recognize a valid marriage.
