Sunset Media Center Will Undergo Renovation

Kilroy Realty Corporation, the new owner, purchases the building 22-story building for $79 million.

The Sunset Media Center has a new owner planning to give the building an update.

Can't picture it? This is the building at 6255 Sunset Blvd. that houses and on the ground level.

The 22-story building built in 1971 was purchased for approximately $79 million by Kilroy Realty Corporation. The real estate investment trust announced it had completed the acquisition on Tuesday.

KRC has started the process of getting approvals for the renovations and work will start as soon as possible, according to a rep.

The company plans to renovate the lobby, common areas and tenant spaces in line with Mayor Villaraigosa's Better Building Challenge, which aims to reduce energy consumption.

“We’ve acquired an opportunity to create meaningful long-term value in this property," said KRC’s executive vice president for the L.A. region David Simon in a press statement. "With some well-targeted improvements to the building’s aesthetics, amenities and energy efficiency, it positions us to service the growing need for entertainment, media and tech-oriented spaces in this submarket.”

The building is 87 percent leased. Tenants include Nielsen Media Research, Magical Elves Production, Prometheus Entertainment, APM Music and Channel 9 Australia.
