'Pilates for Pink' Benefits Breast Cancer Research

Cyclelates fitness studio in Hollywood accepts donations and offers class discounts in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Cyclelates, a new fitness studio in Hollywood formerly known as Spinlates, recently helped raise awareness for breast cancer by sponsoring a “Pilates for Pink Fashion Show.”

Those who arrived for the festivities on Sunday night were encouraged to make a $10 donation to breast cancer research and will be able to use the receipt from their donation to pay for a class at the studio, said owner Bambi Martin. The studio raised more than $500 in proceeds to benefit breast cancer research.

October is known as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Martin gave a personal reason for wanting to participate in the cause.

“My grandmother is a breast cancer survivor, so it’s definitely a cause that is dear to my heart,” Martin said.

Her studio offers Pilates classes as well as yoga, “spin remix” classes and "cyclelates."

“Cyclelates mixes Pilates with cycling, so it’s a great fusion method,” Martin said.

Drew Michael is one of her instructors. While he teaches at other studios in town, he said Martin brings something unique to the table.

“I think Bambi is very innovative,” Michael said. “I think she has some fascinating ideas. I see a lot of innovation that’s not at other places.”

Hollywood resident Karen Casnada is also a fan. She regularly attends classes and said her body is definitely benefiting.

“I love this place,” she said. “I just love all the resistance but also the cardio involved. It makes it fun. It’s always different every time you go.”

Cyclelates is located at 1555 Vine St., next door to .
