New Flower Shop Opens in Beachwood Village

Jennifer Bennett, owner of My Fair Lady's Flowers, brings her experience of 15 years in the floral business to Beachwood Village.

Driving past the iconic stone arches into Hollywoodland, it's hard to miss the newest business to open in Beachwood Village.

Jennifer Bennett, owner of My Fair Lady’s Flowers, has opened up shop in a storefront right next to one of those iconic Hollywoodland arches. She eyed the location, when she visited the neighborhood, hoping one day the space might be hers.

For Bennett, a San Diego native, the shop has been an enterprise years in the making.

"I never wanted to open to the public in San Diego," Bennett said.

The store sells imported as well as locally grown flowers and unique specialty gifts. While Bennett is new to the area, she is not new to the world of flowers.

With 15 years of experience in the floral business, Bennett has worn many hats from selling individual roses to restaurant patrons in San Diego to taking care of plants in her clients’ homes.

“So I cover all areas,” Bennett said.

The name of her shop derives from a nickname she received in San Diego while peddling flowers, similar to what Audrey Hepburn did in the film, My Fair Lady. Bennett is happy to have her first shop in such a unique neighborhood, she said.

“It’s just a really open-minded community,” Bennett said. “It’s just a quaint village. I feel like I’m in Ireland up here. I don’t feel like the busyness of the city.”

The store specializes in high-end flowers, custom leis, Hawaiian flowers, and high-end ceramics. Bennett focuses on “a lot of decorative, orchid displays,” she said. Bennett does deliveries and home and in-store installations as well, including at the Beverly Hills location of lingerie shop Agent Provocateur.

With roses selling for $2.50 each and select lilies for $5 a stem, Bennett hopes the prices please her customers.

“I just want to keep my shop with the times of the economy,” she said. “I’d like to be reasonable. I’m not trying to mark it up like other florists do.”

Bennett is also eager to work with locals and currently sells silk roses and watercolor cards designed by Christine O’Brien, a watercolor and fiber artist who lives in the neighborhood. O’Brien appreciates what Bennett brings to the neighborhood.

“We’re hoping this is the beginning of the renaissance of our village,” said O’Brien who is also vice president of the Hollywoodland Homeowners Association. “It’s physically one of the cutest spaces in Los Angeles for a store.”

Greg Williams, who co-manages the property with his father, Dino Williams, said he still has a tuberose lei from My Fair Lady’s Flowers that a friend bought him for his birthday. He is pleased to welcome Bennett to the neighborhood.

“Jennifer has exquisite taste and a charming personality,” Williams said. “The shop is a fun place to browse. Jennifer is a welcome and beautiful addition to Beachwood Canyon.”

In addition to flowers, jewelry and baby gifts are sold at My Fair Lady’s Flowers with plans to add household items as well. Bennett sees her personal approach as fitting right into the neighborhood.

“I want it to be more on a personal level, and I feel like people here appreciate that,” she said.

My Fair Lady’s Flowers is located at 2691 North Beachwood Drive and is currently open 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. The store delivers between Los Angeles and San Diego. Phone: (323)466-5239.
