Gwen Stefani Rocks Hollywood Sign for L'Oreal Commercial

The keepers of the Hollywood Sign allow a rare ad to be shot on the premises.

Like many entertainment icons, the Hollywood sign is pretty inaccessible.

Not only is it steep and treacherous, but it’s completely off-limits to just about everyone.

But Gwen Stefani, the lead singer of the popular band No Doubt, who recently become the spokeswoman for L’Oreal Paris, shot an ad at the base of the giant sign.

“People try to get over the fence all the time,” said Diana Wright of the Hollywood Sign Preservation Trust. “But we have 24-hour security up there. No one just gets over the fence without being noticed.”

There are many layers of Hollywood red tape that you have to go through to get to the sign. It is even copyrighted, so to photograph or film for commercial purposes you need to go through the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to get the green light to publish any images.

Stefani’s ad is just one of a few that have been allowed to film at the Hollywood sign. In fact, Wright told Patch that only three times in the last year has anyone been allowed to film there.

P.S. It's official, the K$sha video was fake.
