Big Wangs: Happy Hour in a Sports Lover’s Paradise

Cheap beer, spicy wings, and all the sports you can handle

Big Wangs, located in the heart of Hollywood, is a happy hour destination that caters to the avid sports lover.

The bar, located at 1562 Cahuenga Blvd., shows just about any sporting event, including football, basketball, baseball, golf, boxing, college sports and UFC packages. If there is a sporting event on TV, chances are, it’s being played at Big Wangs.

Inside, the bar is casual and laid-back. Long wooden tables accommodate large groups of fans that flock to the bar to watch a big game. Sports banners line the walls and Budweiser flags decorate the ceiling. A photo booth is tucked away in the corner and makes for a perfect way to capture an evening’s memories. Television screens are mounted at various spots inside and are accessible from every seat in the house. There are so many televisions inside that Big Wangs actually claims to have more HD TVs and projection screens than anyone else in Los Angeles. The back bar is packed with tables and stools and a large projection screen is mounted in front of a sea of couches.

Big Wangs is a loud, boisterous environment full of rowdy sports fans and blaring music. It’s the perfect environment for watching a game in a cozy environment. The crowd is young — think recent college grads and those looking for a good night out on the town. It gets crowded inside and if you don’t get there early, even finding an empty barstool can be a daunting task.

The kitchen serves a variety of comfort food such as nachos, pizza, sandwiches, and burgers. The list of draft beers is extensive and the full-service bar provides an array of options.

In addition to happy hour specials, Big Wangs takes care of their customers with additional daily discounts:

During my visit, I munched on delicious nachos ($3.99) and sipped Hoegaarden and Sierra Nevada on draft ($3). Fans packed in to watch the Carolina Duke and Utah versus Idaho college basketball games as I asked what makes them gravitate to Big Wangs:

  • “I like 'Wangs because my friend turned it into the best Michigan State Spartan bar in Los Angeles. The servers and managers are way accommodating and the place has a very Midwestern feel. Tip your servers and bartenders; they go above and beyond. The food is perfect sports bar eating; greasy, hearty and plentiful.” –Cameron Bender
  • “I love their $3 pints and the spicy wings!” – Laura Jones
  • “3 pints and UFC fights at Big Wangs equals awesome!” – Meredith Stedman
  • “Big Wangs is my favorite bar in Hollywood to grab a beer after work. I love that they have great food and really really cheap beers. $3 pints are great and the chicken wings are tasty” – Brian Elder
  • “The beer is tasty and the happy hour specials are hard to beat. You really can find any sporting event you want to see on one of their many TV screens.” – Brett Lee
