Photos: Los Lobos and Los Lonely Boys at the Greek Theatre

The American-Chicano bands share the bill at Friday night's sold-out performance in Griffith Park.

Los Lobos, one of L.A.'s most beloved native bands, played Friday night at the Greek Theater on a bill that also featured Los Lonely Boys, the trio of Texan brothers.

Los Lobos took the stage first, with the same core musicians who formed in Los Angeles three decades ago: Cesar Rosas (guitar and vocals), Louie Perez (vocals, drums, guitars) Conrad Lozano (bass), David Hidalgo (guitar, accordion and vocals) and Steve Berlin (sax). Cougar Estrada played drums and percussion.

They played old classics, like Richie Valens' classic "La Bamba," as well as new songs from their newest album, Tin Can Trust, which will be released August 3rd.

Los Lonely Boys is a Chicano trio of brothers from San Angelo, Texas, who play a fiery brand of rock they call Texican. Henry Garza sings and plays guitar, and is considered one of the greatest electric guitarists around. Jojo Garza is on bass, and Ringo Garza, Jr. on drums. Their new album is called Rockpango.

The bands played together during both sets, the highlight of which was an inspired version of Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe," during which Hidalgo and Henry Garza traded powerful solos.
