New Developer in Hollywood Project, Raoul Walsh Double Feature and Two Film Festivals

Also: Did you catch City Council President Eric Garcetti spinning tunes on KCRW?

Good morning, Hollywood. Here is a roundup of news, tips and neighborhood happenings.

Weather: It will be another cloudy morning, with a high of 69 and a low of 57, reports the National Weather Service.

Garcetti's Angeleno Playlist: In case you missed it, Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti transitioned into the role of guest DJ for KCRW on Wednesday. The full transcript of the show is available on KCRW's website. Garcetti related each song to his native city, with selections from Charles Mingus and Siouxsie and the Banshees. The councilman recalled getting his license as a teen and driving through a canyon: "...when you hit Mulholland and you can look over towards the Valley side or the city side, and see the city laid out like a bed of gems at night…to me is why I knew LA was going to remain my home my entire life."

New Developer in Hollywood Project: DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners has purchased a retail and residential project from the Clarett Group, the Los Angeles Times reports. Blvd 6200, which would sit next to the Pantages Theatre, would feature a 1 million square foot stretch of retail shops and apartment buildings. This is not to be confused with the  project that developers Millennium Partners and Argent Ventures are seeking approval to build next to the Capitol Records building.

LAPD Budget Cuts: The City Council approved a $6.9-billion budget last month that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed June 2. The budget slashed $41 million from the police department and the city is working with the union that represents the police officers to fill that gap, reports City News Service. Chief Administrative Officer Miguel Santana wants the council to vote on a solution by Tuesday. Santana's preferred option is freezing the level of the city's medical subsidy for retired officers, which former police chief and now Councilman Bernard Parks said he would support.
