Moms Talk: What Are Your Favorite Family Movies?

What movies does your whole family love to watch together? Lee Emery kicks of our inaugural moms Q&A.

Hollywood Patch invites you and your circle of friends to help build a community of support for mothers and their families right here in Hollywood.

Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians, 24-hour pharmacies and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.

So grab a cup of coffee and settle in as we start the conversation today with a question from Lee Emery, a mom with two children who lives in the Hollywood. She wants to know: What are your favorite family movies?

From Lee:

Living in Hollywood, I probably shouldn’t admit this, but rather than take my family to the movies, I prefer to snuggle up at home with them and watch a DVD.

This might be due to a particularly stressful aborted outing to the Arclight with a small screaming child bailing on the movie after only a few moments of seeing the previews! (To their credit, the Arclight Hollywood refunded our tickets.)

Still, for my son, a movie theater is not always a welcoming place. It’s loud, and the previews are actually sometimes quite scary, or inappropriate. At home, however, if the kids hate the movie, or are frightened, we just turn it off. It’s easy and economical and cozy. I’d like to tell you where we rent the movies locally, but all our favorite video stores are gone. So we, like the rest of the world, use Netflix.

Or we buy used DVDs from Amoeba Hollywood, which often has some good deals on used kids’ titles. Friday night is the movie night of choice at our place. Yet, one dilemma remains: What movie can we all watch together that we will all actually enjoy? My son is six, and my daughter is nine.

Their interests are so different, and they rarely agree on anything. Plus, what children’s movie are my husband and I going to be able to see for the seventy-fifth time?  We managed to assemble the following list.

Here are twenty family movies that, come Friday night, none of us would object to watching, “just one more time.”

 1.  Cars

2.  Kung Fu Panda

3 . Ice Age

4.  Alvin and The Chipmunks

15. Nanny McPhee

16. Annie

17. Star Wars 4 (A New Hope)

18. Swiss Family Robinson

19. The Parent Trap 1 & 2
