Gastro-Hub to Host a 'Howl-o-Ween' Extravaganza

Halloween is now upon us, and to celebrate the spirit and 'spirits' of ghosts and ghouls, The Fat Dog Hollywood has teamed up with its neighbors and friends in Fairfax Avenue's Gastro-hub, 801 N. Fairfax, to bring you a celebration for four-legged and two-legged friends alike.

On Sunday, Oct. 30, The Fat Dog, and neighbors, Lindy and Grundy, Coffee Commissary, and Tailwaggers Pets get together to stage a 'Howl-o-Ween" event.

Tailwaggers Pets will be hosting their annual Halloween Doggy Costume Contest, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is their first year at 801 N. Fairfax, but previous events at their N. Bronson Avenue location have been hugely successful, with upwards of eighty decked-out doggies competing for the grand prize.

For the day of the event, 5-percent of all sales in the store will be donated to three pet nonprofits with which Tailwaggers has partnered. The event is not only "Enormous fun." Says Tailwaggers Pets owner, Todd Warner. "Our Annual Tailwagger Halloween Pet Costume Contest has not only raised money every year for local rescue organizations, but also helps in raising awareness of the plight of rescue animals. It's something that we and our customers look forward to each year."  

At The Fat Dog, a free Pumpkin Smash shot, will be available in exchange for a shot of your pooch to post on the 'Doggy Wall of Fame.' Diners bringing their 'pup pal' to the patio, can get their fantastic 'Fat Dog' hot dog for 50-percent off, all day. The 'Fat Dog' is a 100-percent beef, 14-inch double- ength dog, with no casing, served in a bun with pickle relish, onion, tomato, peperoncini, ketchup and mustard. For the whole day, the 'Pumpkin Smash' shot will be available for $3.

The Coffee Commissary, in partnership with the businesses of 801 N. Fairfax, will be playing host to a prize Pumpkin Carving Contest from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pumpkins and basic tools will be provided, on a first come first serve RSVP basis.

The prizes are as follows. First Prize: $50 gift certificates from each of 'The Fat Dog', 'Tailwaggers', and 'Lindy and Grundy'. Second Prize: $25 gift certificate from each of the above. Third Prize: $10 gift certificate from each of the above.

To round out the day's festivities, at 7 p.m., Lindy and Grundy will be clearing out their refrigerator cases, and their shop will be transformed into a spectacularly spooky 'Haunted House.' They will also be offering 'trick or treats' for adults, kids, and dogs all day.
