Pilot season is here! Be ready!
This session is geared towards strengthening chops and getting more grounded while focusing on cold readings and developing technique. Classes will be structured with a fast pace so everyone gets up and works at least twice each evening.
February 29th – March 28th, 2012
This class is for all levels of actors. Using both Method and Meisner based techniques, we will help the actor make clear and specific choices rooted in what he/she is "doing". Each student will gain an understanding of what it means to be an artist and create work that is alive and rooted in the truth of each individual actor.
A few areas covered:
- How an actor gains awareness of physical tension and releases this tension.
- Finding the "set givens" so a character's truth can be revealed.
- Creating change within one's self rather then changing the character.
- What is the character's "need"? How is this "need" attained?
Basic course outline:
Actors will be working on scene study, monologues and exercises to develop technique. We will also focus on audition technique at different times through out the session.
"Let me go beyond actor and teacher for a moment... Kirk is much more than these things combined; he's also a great visionary and a pioneer! Had I approached anyone else on the idea of dedicating time to developing actors (from scratch) in a Caribbean country located thousands of miles away, I would've been laughed at. Kirk took the time to understand the project at hand, and to work diligently with a couple students, in an effort to help turn one's dreams into a reality. In less than six months, he built a following containing more than three dozen faithful disciples, committed to the art of acting. That's the true testament to who Kirk is as a person, and why he is far ahead of so many others within the trade."
