Celtic Concert Under the Stars

The Eighth Annual Celtic Concert Under the Stars at the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood Set for Sunday, September 18.

An awesome line up is planned with a stirring opening, a marching performance by the LA Police Emerald Society Pipe Band followed by three great World Music bands and Irish Step-dancers (made famous by Riverdance). This annual concert is one of the best World Music and Celtic Music events in Southern California and it is a benefit for the Celtic Arts Center of LA.

Traditional Irish Music will be played by the Ploughboys, a great local group that is the House Band for the Tam O'Shanter Restuarant. Next up are a very interesting Celtic Fusion group from San Diego, SKELPN. The fiddle and vocals by Patric Petrie who heads this group are quite amazing. The band has a Medeterranean influence and that coupled with their high energy makes them a wonderful and different addition to this Pan Celtic night!

The headliners are a family band, The Brown Sisters and George Cavanaugh who are well known on the Scottish Games and Festival circuit for their haunting Scottish Ballads of the Highlands. Dublin born Irish traditional balladeer, Ken O'Malley will join the Brown sisters and George Cavanaugh for a good part of their set. This promises to be a night to remember for lovers of traditional and Irish music.

Irish Traditional Dance aficionados are in for a treat too with a dance exhibition planned to close the show by the acclaimed championship dancers from the Cleary School of Irish Dance. No other group can fill a stage with such energy, joy and pure talent as the students from the Cleary School under the direction of Margaret Cleary.

The venue itself is marvelous! The Ford amphitheater was built in the heyday of Hollywood adjacent to the pristine hills that surround the area. It is situated close to the equally famous Hollywood Bowl. The gates open at 6:00pm (CONCERT STARTS AT 7:PM) and picnics are permitted on the grounds. Patrons can bring their own food or order a boxed meal in advance. Food and beverages are also for sale.

The artists will be available to meet fans and sign autographs and CDs at intermission and after the show. The Irish News and Entertainment is sponsoring an Outreach Booth so groups are encouraged to participate and pass out information.

Student tickets are only $15. Eventbee.com and GoldStar have a special price on general admission tickets too!
