'22 Jump Street' Tops Box Office

It's the second biggest R-rated comedy debut behind 'The Hangover 2.'

"22 Jump Street" proved today that a Rated R-for- raunchy comedy sequel can strike box office gold, as it is bringing in $60 million in opening weekend sales.

The Channing Tatum/Jonah Hill vehicle was the second biggest R-rated comedy debut in U.S. box office history, behind only the $86 million blockbuster "The Hangover 2."

Another sequel -- "How To Train Your Dragon 2" -- debuted with a solid $50 million in receipts, a strong second place.

And showing the strength of kid power at the summer movie market, the Disney feature "Maleficent" was in third place with a $19 million weekend, and $163.5 million in domestic sales over 2-1/2 weeks.

Making up the top 10 movies in the U.S. and Canada this weekend, as estimated by the studios and collated by Rentrak, were "Edge of Tomorrow" ($16.2 million), "The Fault In Our Stars" ($15.7 million), "X-Men: Days Of the Future Past" ($9.5 million), "Godzilla" ($3.2 million), "A Million Ways To Die In The West" ($3 million), "Neighbors" ($2.5 million) and "Chef" ($2.3 million).
