Weekend Planner: July Fourth Fun in Hollywood and Nearby
With a forecast of sunshine, the holiday weekend is shaping up to be a good one to spend outdoors.
July Fourth is a great holiday weekend. It's an opportunity to catch up with friends, eat delicious food and not have to buy gifts. Check out fireworks at Dodger Stadium and the Hollywood Bowl. It's also a perfect time to view some outdoor cinema at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
1. Fireworks at The Hollywood Bowl with Hall & Oates
Where/When: Hollywood Bowl, 2301 North Highland Ave, Hollywood, 90068. July 2-4 at 7:30 p.m.

Why go: The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by Thomas Wilkins is joined by Hall & Oates to play American favorites that will get you in the mood for the fireworks extravaganza. Rock out to the duo's hits such as Maneater and Rich Girl that landed the pair in the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Where/When: Arena Stage, 1625 North Las Palmas, Hollywood, 90028. Extended by popular demand through July 31. Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Sunday at 3 p.m.
Why go: The play was scheduled to end July 3, but it’s been getting great reviews and packing the 99 seat theater so why not check it out this weekend? It’s a great story about sibling rivalry, love, ego and stripping with memorable lyrics from Stephen Sondheim including the song Everything’s Coming Up Roses.

3. Dodger Stadium—Baseball & Fireworks
Where/When: Dodger Stadium, 1000 Elysian Park Ave., July 4, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Why go: What could be more American than hot dogs, baseball and fireworks to celebrate our 235th birthday. Bring the whole family out to see the Los Angeles Dodgers face the New York Mets. Fireworks will follow the game.

4. Cinespia's Movies Under the Stars: Butch Cassidy and Ghostbusters
Where/When: Hollywood Forever Cemetery, 6000 Santa Monica Blvd., Saturday and Sunday 7:30 p.m. gates open, 9 p.m. movie begins.
Why go: Grab a blanket, bring a picnic dinner and enjoy a movie under the stars. Alcohol is permitted along with pillows and short chairs. Saturday is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and on Sunday, Ghostbusters. Make some memories while seeing these classic films on a giant outdoor screen. There’s also a DJ before and after the film.
Price: $10 per person and $10 for parking at the cemetery. Available online.
Where/When: Akbar, 4356 Sunset Blvd., 90029 Friday and Saturday, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.
Why go: In the words of Lady Gaga, “just dance” this weekend. This club was named “Best Gay Bar” by LA Weekly in 2008 and the owners want to remind people who might be hanging in West Hollywood that it offers free dancing on weekends. DJs Mike Glass and Jonny Cota will spin the night away and promise not to play the same tired old songs you always hear.
