Weekend Planner: Art Fundraiser, 'Star Wars' in Concert and Brazilian Films

This weekend tap into the force at the Hollywood Bowl, party the night away at Crown Bar or shop for art with a cause.

There are many events in Hollywood and nearby this weekend. A couple stellar events include the performance of Star Wars scores at the or seeing  stars at the MTV Movie Award After Party in West Hollywood. 

Check out a Brazilian Film Festival at the Egyptian Theater or catch Lyle Lovett with his longtime musical partner John Hiatt in Northridge. There is also a fun art exhibit at Siren Studios with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Project Angel Food.

1. Get Art4 Fundraiser

 Where/When: Siren Studios, 6063 West Sunset Blvd, Hollywood, 90028; Saturday, June 4;  7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why go:  More than 100 Los Angeles artists are coming together in Hollywood on Saturday to support Project Angel Food, an organization that prepares and delivers 14,000 meals a week to people with life threatening illness. There will be live art experiences, a deejay and more than 200 pieces of art available for purchase with 100 percent of proceeds going to the charity.

Price: Tickets $10 advance purchase; $15 at the door.

2. 2011 MTV Movie Awards After-Party

Where/When: Crown Bar, 7321 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, 90046; Sunday, June 5; 8 p.m.

Why go: eMuzix and F.A.M.E. Los Angeles is hosting this event at Crown Bar, which is described on the website as a classic bistro bar. There’s a red carpet and a few confirmed celebrities for the event celebrating the award show.

 Price: Free, but you must sign up on Eventbrite.

3. Star Wars in Concert 

Where/When: The Hollywood Bowl, 2301 North Highland Ave, 90068; June 3-4; 8 p.m. Friday, 7:30 p.m Saturday

Why go: If you love the music from Star Wars, this is an event made in heaven. A full symphony orchestra performs the stellar score while each piece has an accompanying original film montage created by LucasFilm displayed on high definition screens. Anthony Daniels, aka C-3PO, will introduce each of John Williams’ scores. May the force be with you!

Price: $52- $117

4.    Acoustic Evening with Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt

 Where/ When: Valley Performing Arts Center, 18111 Nordhoff St, Northridge 91330; Friday June 3; 8 p.m.

Why go: These two versatile performers have their banter and witty repertoire down, as they perform country, swing, folk and blues favorites. The two ‘t’s at the end of their name isn’t all they have common. They’ve been playing together since 1989. Lovett has four Grammy awards under his belt and Hiatt recently released a critically-acclaimed album.

Price: $24- $70

5.  Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival

Where/When: Egyptian Theater, 6712 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, 90028; Through June 4. See full schedule

Why go: Get a taste of the Brazilian film scene. This film festival is meant to reach Hollywood professionals in the film biz so it’s sure to offer some of the best movies coming out from the country.
