Water Mains Break in Hollywood Hills

There were two large, unrelated water main breaks in the Hollywood Hills this morning, authorities said.

The ruptures involve an 8-inch main at 1820 El Cerrito Place and a 6- inch main at 1937 Grace Ave., said Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman Kim Hughes, adding that each serves some 20 residences.

The breaks were spotted after 3:30 a.m. DWP crews shut off the water but were waiting until daylight to begin digging through the pavement to repair the pipes, Hughes said. There was no immediate word on when service would be restored.
