Get the kids into character and rent a costume or make your own for the Renaisssance Faire and a Shakespeare festival—or not. Jeans are cool too.

Why go: This fabulous fundraiser festival of dinosaurs has games, an obstacle course bounce house, swings, science exhibits and face painting for the little ones. It's a little fair with raffles, food and music.

Where/When: Alex Theatre 216 North Brand Blvd, Glendale, CA 91203; Saturday, April 9, 2 p.m and 8 p.m.
Why go: Start a family tradition with one of the best family movies of all time. It's fun for kids to be noisy in a theater as they sing along with Dorothy and her friends.
Price: General admission: $13.50, seniors and students $9.50.
4. Majors and Minors Open Call For Talent on The Hub
Where/When: Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 South Figueroa St, Los Angeles, California 90015; Sunday, April 10 11 a.m to 6 p.m
Why go: If your child between 8-16-years old can sing, dance, write music or play an instrumant and dreams of being on television, this is their chance to get in front of key decision makers at the children's network, The Hub for a 15-episode reality show where no one gets voted off and the kids chosen will be mentored by professionals. There are rules and an application you need to read, but Sunday is an open call.

5. Merchant of Venice – Shakespeare Youth Festival
Where/ When: The Lost Studio, 130 S. La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, 90036; Friday, April 1 – Sunday, April 10, Fridays at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 4:30 p.m.
Why go: Your family may enjoy watching Shakespeare performed by the youngest troupe of actors in the United States. The Merchant of Venice is featured as one of several plays in the festival this month and features timeless lessons about greed, jealousy and power.
Price: Children age 7 and up, $10.
