Patch Picks for This Weekend

Live music, new movies and a 1964 concert of the Beatles for this Pre-Valentine's Day weekend.

Where/When: Egyptian Theatre, 6712 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood CA 90028  Friday February 11, 7:30 p.m. with an added show at 11 p.m.

Why go: This is your opportunity to see The Beatles first American concert as it actually happened February 11, 1964. On Friday you can see it for the first time in 47 years, titled The Beatles' Complete First American Concert, and rock historian Domenic Priore hosts a panel discussion with archivist Ron Furmanek, documentarian Alan Boyd and a special guest. 2. Steven James & The Mess Arounds

Why go:  Listen to some wonderful original acoustic music that is a blend of soft rock and jazz with spicy Spanish elements written by Stephen James Baumann.  He is accompanied by bassist, Jeff Maccora and drummer, Manohar Gurung. You can listen while having dinner and drinks at an iconic Hollywood restaurant. Family hours during dinner service till 10 p.m. and 21 and older in the bar.  The atmosphere is friendly and the American Contemporary cuisine includes burgers‎, pizza‎, ribs‎, sandwiches‎ and seafood. Why go: Whether you are happily single, part of a couple, or hoping to meet your valentine, The Kress is the place to be. Sip martinis, drink champagne, enjoy hors d'oeuvres, place a bid in the silent auction and listen to live jazz under the stars from the rooftop patio. Singles wear red, couples wear black, making it easier for Cupid's arrow to hit the right target. Tickets are available online.

4. Spring Awakening

Where/When: Pantages Theater 6233 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, CA.  Friday to Sunday  8 p.m., Matinees: Sat. 2 p.m. and Sun 1 p.m.

Why go:  The winner of 8 2007 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score, Spring Awakening is a story about German teens coming of age and explores strong sexual themes including incest, pregnancy, gay seduction and other adult themes. Runs: 2 hrs, 15 mins. Spring Awakening contains strong language, partial nudity and adult situations, and parental discretion is advised. Everyone must have a ticket; children under 5 will not be admitted to the theater.

5. Just Go With It: Movie Opening

Where/When: ArcLight Hollywood 6360 W Sunset Blvd. Opens Friday with various showtimes.

Why go: It's a romantic weekend, why not go see a romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston? In Just Go With It, a plastic surgeon, romancing a much younger teacher, enlists his loyal assistant to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife, in order to cover up a careless lie. When more lies backfire, the assistant's kids become involved, and everyone heads off for a weekend in Hawaii that will change all their lives. For showtimes, call 323-464-4226
