Las Palmas Senior Center Showcases Local Artists

A free "Hollywood Cafe" is held on the last Thursday of each month.

The Las Palmas Senior Center is reaching out to the community with a new monthly event focused on showing off local talent.

The evenings, known as “Hollywood Café,” are held on the last Thursday of each month. Since it started four months ago, the likes of John Barrymore, Junior, and David Carradine’s daughter, Calista, have performed, according to Luke Euzarraga, director of the Las Palmas Senior Center.

“The quality is very good,” Euzarraga said.

He said the free event draws a mostly younger crowd despite the fact it is held at the senior citizens’ center. His hope is that more people take advantage of the offerings.

"The reason we're doing it is so people could come see them and to get them work," he said.

Emmy Award winning writer Tracy Newman is scheduled to sing, along with her band, at Thursday night’s show.
