How to Stay Safe in the Pool

The LAFD offers tips on saving lives when swimming this holiday weekend.

The Fourth of July and swimming often go hand in hand with many people spending time outdoors pool side with family and friends.

However, the Los Angeles Fire Department, or LAFD, warns that pool safety should always be placed before fun.

“Simple steps save lives,” according to the LAFD.

By taking simple precautions, firefighters say local residents can reduce the risks of children drowning, entrapments and other dangers that can happen in the pool.

The key things for parents and other adults who are supervising to remember are: keep pool safety covers on pools and Jacuzzis when they are unattended, learn CPR, make sure children take swimming lessons, have door, gate and pool alarms and install proper fences around pool areas.
