High Winds Trigger Red Flag Warning

Warning on fire conditions, parking restrictions in effect in Hollywood.

Strong Santa Ana winds have prompted a red flag warning for the Los Angeles area, including the Hollywood Hills, by the National Weather Service.

A red flag warning indicates critical fire-weather conditions, fueled by winds and low humidity. Under such conditions, a fire could spread quickly.

The warning was expected to be in effect through 6 p.m. Wednesday in areas stretching from Malibu to the Hollywood Hills and down to Orange County.

Winds of about 20 to 30 miles per hour were expected, with possible gusts up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Humidity in the single digits was expected Wednesday.

Weather Service officials also urged residents to be on the lookout for downed power lines.

Due to the red flag warnings, the Los Angeles Fire Department has also restricted parking in some areas. The parking restrictions were scheduled to be in place starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday through 8 a.m. Thursday. To see a map of where the restrictions are in effect, see the LAFD's Red Flag website.
