City Council Approves Gate for Hollywood Hills Neighborhood

The decision to install a gate at Solar Drive comes after complaints from residents who say the area attracts troublesome partyers.

The Los Angeles City Council approved a plan to close Solar Drive after complaints from residents who say it has become a popular place to "park and party," according to an article in the L.A. Times.

At the council's Friday meeting, the closure was approved for 18 months and aims to give residents a break from people who frequent Solar Drive as a place to party.

The article noted that the gate alters access to Runyon Canyon Park from Solar Drive. "Hikers will now have to park outside the gate, enter Solar Drive through a small pedestrian opening, and walk along the street to the entrance to Runyon Canyon Park," according to the story.

The Times spoke to a resident who has grown tired of partyers and others who commit illegal acts. "Some of the people do not look like people you'd want to confront," the resident said.

Councilman Tom LaBonge, who represents a portion of the Hollywood Hills, said he agrees with the placement of the gate because of the lack of manpower to patrol the area by the LAPD.
