Police fire tear gas into a Hollywood apartment after the man barricades himself inside.

LAPD SWAT officers fired tear gas into a Hollywood apartment Wednesday, then went inside and arrested a man who barricaded himself after allegedly threatening several people while armed with a machete, police said.

Oliviero Bozzi, 28, was booked on suspicion of making criminal threats, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

Officers were sent to the 1700 bock of North Fuller Avenue around 10 p.m. Tuesday in response to a report of a man causing a disturbance and threatening a man with a machete, the LAPD reported.

At one point, the suspect stood shirtless on his apartment's fifth-floor balcony and threw a machete into a ground floor pool while screaming at police to shoot him, according to video from the scene. He then barricaded himself inside the apartment, police said.

A woman who reported being threatened told a news photographer that the man claimed to have firearms in his apartment.

Some residents of the apartment building where the man was holed up were evacuated, and Hollywood Boulevard was closed between Fuller Avenue and Camino Palmero Street while the crisis played out.

Police fired tear gas into the apartment just before 4:30 a.m. and Bozzi was taken into custody a short time later.
