Laemmle Theatres to Vacate Sunset 5

Theater operator unable to renew its lease, the L.A. Times reports. Sundance Cinemas scheduled to take over Dec. 1.

The Laemmle Theatres will move out of the Sunset 5 on Sunset Boulevard near Crescent Heights, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

Laemmle, a popular programmer of independent movies, was "unable to come to terms with the landlord on a new lease," the Times reported.

Laemmle will vacate the five-screen complex at the end of the month, and Robert Redford's Sundance Cinemas will take over. Plans call for the theater to close temporarily for renovation and reopen in late spring.
