Hollywood Today: Celebration to Mark Hollywood's 125th Year

Also: Redistricting Commission to hold public hearing at Wilshire Ebell Theatre to gather input on proposed City Council district boundaries.

Hollywood—originally deeded on Feb. 1, 1887—is turning 125 years old, and the  is planning to celebrate with events throughout Wednesday. Festivities start at 9:30 a.m. in the Hollywood & Highland courtyard.

Comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will join Chamber president Leron Gubler and board chairman Marty Shelton to blow out the candles of a specially made Hollywood birthday cake. The cake was created by Food Network chef Duff Goldman of Charm City Cakes West and the shows Ace of Cakes and Sugar High.

In the late afternoon, the Chamber is hosting a mixer and party at 4 p.m. in the courtyard of Hollywood & Highland. Tickets are $10 for members of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and $20 for non-members. To make a reservation, call 323-469-8311, or reserve your space online

  • Remember the recently released ? Tonight is the time to provide your input on whether you support or oppose the proposal in front of the Redistricting Commission. The public hearing will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, 743 S. Lucerne Blvd. If you can't make it, there will be six more hearings. The next one near the Hollywood area will be at Walter Reed Middle School, 4525 Irvine Ave., Studio City, on Feb. 9.
  • Several community groups will be celebrating the culmination of a performing arts initiative at Cheremoya Elementary School Wednesday afternoon. The school's fourth-grade class will perform a series of student-written, acted and produced one-act plays created in the 12-week Project S.O.A.R. program. The Hollywood Arts Council, the Cheremoya Foundation and state Assemblyman Mike Feuer will join in the celebration. The performance is at 4:30 p.m. followed by a reception. RSVP to HACadmin@hollywoodartscouncil.org.
  • The Will and Ariel Durant Library will offer "Cultural Connections" at 4 p.m. Pre-schoolers through third-graders will have the opportunity to be introduced to cultures from all over the world through crafts, reading and singing.
